Welcome from the Governing Mayor
Welcome to Berlin! I am delighted to greet you in Germany’s capital, which is also a city of sport. I am pleased that our city is once again hosting the Berlin Cup International. How wonderful that so many athletes from different countries are coming to the Berlin Cup again this year.
Berlin regularly hosts international sports competitions and championships. Among the best-known major sporting events in Berlin are the Berlin Marathon and the annual German Cup final in the Olympic Stadium. The Berlin Cup International has also become an established fixture, both in Berlin’s sporting landscape and in international boxing, especially youth boxing.
This is largely thanks to the Berlin boxing club Isigym. Over the years, the club and its members have built up the Berlin Cup with great dedication. They have promoted it among national federations and clubs. They have reliably taken care of the many organisational tasks that are necessary and often go unnoticed – from equipment and medical care to insurance.
For young boxers, Isigym is more than a club. Beyond the ring, Isigym looks after young people and stands up for them, for example with help with homework and career guidance. Through sport, it also passes on values that matter to young people and to how we live together in our society: fairness, discipline, perseverance, concentration and courage.
I wish all the young athletes every success at the Berlin Cup International 2026. And I wish you all a good time in Berlin outside the Sporthalle Schöneberg, too.
Kai Wegner
Governing Mayor of Berlin
